Martin Luther King Jr Day Celebration

Cleveland celebrates the life of Dr Martin Luther King Jr each year with a free regional theatre presentation, the theme of which differs year by year. In common with celebrations throughout the rest of the United States, there are also any number of marches, children’s parades and a multitude of performances and religious services held right across the city. The day is a public holiday in the USA.

Cleveland International Film Festival

Cleveland Film Society has been entertaining audiences with the Cleveland International Film Festival since 1977. The festival is one of the biggest events of its kind in Ohio and is held each spring. The festival presents a programme of over 200 films by filmmakers from all over the world. As well as a packed screening programme of features, visitors can enjoy a host of other events.

Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland

This festival has performances from many leading artists in the jazz world. It lasts some 10 days and showcases the entire spectrum of jazz music. In addition to the well-attended music programme, the festival also offers workshops and educational seminars to members of the public. In recent years, the festival’s programme has also stretched to include big names from the worlds of blues and R & B.

Parade the Circle

Every June, the University Circle neighbourhood hosts this colourful, multicultural event. It began in 1990 with just 100 parade participants, but has now grown to over 2,000 paraders. While spectating is free, anyone can parade for a small, nominal charge. As well as the costumed parades, there are puppet shows, crafts and storytelling, and the event is extremely child-friendly.

Boston Mills ArtFest

This fine art and crafts show, held at the Boston Mills ski resort, is largely considered to be one of the best of its kind in the whole of the country. The festival is held over two weekends in the lovely summer months. As well as exhibitions and stalls, there is a competitive element and artists of all mediums can compete. Patrons can purchase art while enjoying select fine wines, craft beers and hors d'oeuvres.

Cleveland's Irish Cultural Festival

Celebrating Cleveland's rich Irish heritage, this annual festival offers visitors a fantastic weekend of activities and entertainment - all with a sentimental nod to the fair Emerald Isle. Irish history and culture is brought to life through traditional dance, harp music, fiddle bands, rock music and traditional pipe music. Performances take place on seven stages and Irish literature, theatre and poetry also makes an appearance over the weekend. Other events and attractions include native Irish dog shows, an Irish coffee house, an Irish market, and of course, visitors have plenty of opportunities to try traditional Irish food and drink.

Latino Heritage Festival

To introduce Latino Heritage Month each year, the hallowed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opens its doors to Cleveland's Latino Heritage Festival. The entertainment is considered extremely authentic, and comes in the traditional forms of music and dancing, including the percussion-driven traditions of plena and bomba. There’s a chance to learn some of the dances at some of the free taster courses.

Vintage Ohio Wine Festival

This is a very civilised festival, which takes place over two days each summer. The main focus is on the 20 or so wineries that bring their wares for the public to sample. The event has grown to include a range of events, including wine tastings and a good line-up of local musicians and groups from the performing arts. To go with the fine wines, there are also exhibits from local gourmet food and dairy producers.

Taste of Cleveland

More than 30 local restaurants, bistros and cafés serve up sample-sized portions of their signature dishes and desserts, all in one large outdoor space. There’s a stage for bands and entertainment, and the gastronomical celebration includes energetic cooking demonstrations, including a ‘Cooking with Kids’ class for parents and their children. There’s also a wine-tasting school plus cooking and dessert competitions.

Cleveland National Air Show

The Cleveland National Air Show is a fantastic event for aviation fans of all kinds. Every day there are aerial acrobatics to marvel at from a great number of old and new aircraft, and the show offers a great chance to examine various military and commercial planes on the ground as well. In addition, the event includes lots of family fun, educational exhibits, rock walls, bungee jumps, aviation souvenirs and much more.
