San Gennaro Festival
Saint Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples, is one of the most celebrated city saints in Italy. Two vials of his blood (collected after his beheading in 305 CE) are taken out of safekeeping. When exposed to citywide prayer, the powdered blood is said to miraculously liquefy, a good omen for the city.
